We also try to catch eye contact with drivers passing by and we wave at them with a hand or thumb to catch their attention. Some more creative people use inflatable props like giant thumbs.<br /><br />What you were doing in Bishop, that is standing still with your thumb continuously stuck out stiff and motionless, I have only seen in the movies.
